"Then Samuel took a stone... and called it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us." — 1 Samuel 7:12
Tumaini Evangelical Lutheran Church of Uganda Ltd is a Christian ministry registered in Uganda under the Companies Act, Cap 106, as a company limited by guarantee. Our name, Tumaini, means "hope" — and that is exactly what we exist to bring.
Hope through the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and hope through practical care for the people we serve.
We are a Bible-believing church guided by the Holy Spirit, committed to preaching and teaching the Word of God with power, authority, and love.
We conduct church services, baptisms, Holy Communion, seminars, crusades, workshops, and marriage ceremonies — creating space for believers to grow in faith and understanding.
We are committed to training, appointing, and ordaining pastors, teachers, and gospel ministers, and to establishing Bible schools and theological institutions that equip the next generation of church leadership.
We believe in the power of education to transform lives. Our vision includes opening schools, colleges, and learning centers to promote the educational welfare of children and communities across Uganda.
A central part of who we are is caring for orphans, widows, widowers, the elderly, the blind, the sick, and street kids. We believe the church has a responsibility to stand with the most vulnerable among us.
We work to empower people to access social services and improve their standard of living — including supporting members through financial pooling, soft loans for small enterprise, and self-help programs during times of sickness or loss.
We actively cooperate with other churches, missions, and organizations — locally and internationally — that share our vision of peace, service, and the gospel.
In accordance with our registered charter under the Companies Act, Cap 106, Tumaini Evangelical Lutheran Church plans to grow Christian education, clean water, vulnerable care, and leadership development projects to serve communities from Kampala to rural districts across Uganda.
We want to provide tuition bursaries, nutritious school meals, and Bible-centered foundational education for vulnerable children unable to afford standard school fees.
Our plan is to drill solar-pumped deep water boreholes in arid villages where families walk up to 7km for water, helping reduce waterborne diseases and typhoid.
We hope to equip, ordain, and mentor pastors, evangelists, and Sunday school leaders, and to supply study Bibles and Luther’s Small Catechisms to rural parishes.
We aim to begin weekly nutritional feeding programs, provide medicine for the bedridden elderly and blind, and offer educational reintegration programs for street-connected youth.
We plan to offer seed-capital soft loans and village savings circles so church members can launch chicken farming, tailoring, and produce stalls, with financial literacy training.
We long to establish evangelical worship centers in unreached areas and translate liturgy guides and catechisms into Luganda, Runyankole, Lusoga, and Acholi.
